Graduates
Guide Dogs, K-9 Buddies, & Breeders
Scroll down to see our dogs that have graduated as guide dogs, K9 buddies, or breeders (all listed in order by graduation date). Or, find the name of the dog you wish to see in the menu below.
Guide Dogs: There is an extremely high level of skill, soundness, and health necessary for a dog to become a guide dog. The dog must:
be orthopedically sound
be capable of walking long distances
be free from nagging allergies
be in good physical health
be sensitive yet brave
be obedient yet independent
be loving of the handler yet aloof of strangers when necessary
Breeders: Only dogs that have met the highest tempermental and physical standards are considered for inclusion in Guide Dogs for the Blind's breeding colony. Charter stock breeders are breeders that are bred once or twice then altered and placed back into formal guidework training.
K9 Buddies: These specially selected dogs are usually young dogs from GDB's own colony that are unsuitable to be Guide Dogs for medical or behavioral reasons, but would make excellent companions for legally blind children.
ATTENTION PUPPY RAISERS: Is your puppy's picture missing? Don't like the photo that's up? Send in those pictures! Email Amber at webmaster@goldrushguides.org with your favorite photos of your puppy and she will post them to the website!
